My journey into doula work and childbirth education began almost 20 years ago when I discovered a copy of Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin.  I instantly became a self-certified birth junkie!  Ever since then I have been devouring information about pregnancy and childbirth.  I believe your birth is a unique and wonderful experience, in which you deserve to be informed, respected and supported.  My goal as a childbirth educator is that you learn to make empowered decisions, and find an inner strength that is more powerful than you have ever known.

My hope for your birth is that you are transformed as a woman in a positive way and feel competent and capable in your new role as a mother.

I have had the privilege of attending births for over 12 years, all while giving birth to four of my own children. My own four very different birth experiences have really left a lifelong imprint on me as a woman, as a mother, and as a childbirth educator and doula. I have given birth once at home and three times at the hospital, including twice by unplanned cesarean. With each of my births, I had loving and strong doulas by my side. It was through my own difficult and beautiful birth journeys, that I learned that every birth has the potential to be empowering and that hiring a doula is one of the best ways to ensure exactly that. I am happy to support you in reaching your birthing goals, whatever they may be.

I have a background in health sciences, psychology and education, which have helped me to look at birth through a physiological perspective and to have a critical eye for how to best support the natural process as it unfolds.
I am passionate about breastfeeding and mothering.  I am currently working on my path to becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).  I have breastfed my four children, through many difficulties and struggles, and have remained a committed nursing mother and mentor to others.

I first discovered my passion for all things pregnancy, birth, and postpartum throughout my own experiences. The first birth being in a hospital, and the second at home - both amazing and powerful experiences. Throughout the journey of bringing my very first baby earthside, I realized that midwifery was the career and life for me. I came into doula work as a step on my path toward that ultimate goal, and I am thrilled to be doing it!

I believe that women deserve to birth in whatever way feels right for them. I am a very strong believer in the accuracy of intuition; especially that of a mother regarding her child or children. Birth is a normal and natural physiological process, and our bodies were built for it.

My goal for every birth that I am a part of is to ensure that the mother, and her partner, feel satisfied and empowered by the birth experience because they were in control and informed about the decisions they made; regardless of the circumstances, place of birth, or any other outside influences.

Some of my own postpartum experiences were less than ideal. I often felt that I was lacking in support and I didn't know where I could go or what I could do to overcome that. Since learning about postpartum doula work, I have felt a very strong call to spread the word and to be there for women during that time. The fourth trimester is an extremely sensitive and crucial point in one's life, and mothers need to know that they are not alone - that they are loved and supported. I intend to assist in helping mothers feel that way, and to transition more smoothly into life with a new baby, whether it is their first, third, or tenth baby!
